Kennedy (Edward M. “Ted”) is born in Dorchester.

The ninth and youngest child of Joseph and Rose (Fitzgerald) Kennedy, Ted Kennedy graduates from Harvard College and the University of Virginia Law School, and serves in the U.S. Army. Returning to Boston, he marries Joan Bennett in 1958, lives initially at 3 Charles River Square, and works as an assistant district attorney in Suffolk County. Kennedy serves in the U.S. Senate (1963-2009) and becomes of its most effective members in history, known for his ability to work “across the aisle” with Republicans. He runs unsuccessfully for the Democratic nomination for president in 1976,* and marries Victoria Reggie in 1992. Kennedy dies in Hyannisport on August 25, 2009.* After a funeral in Boston, he is buried in Arlington National Cemetery in Virginia on August 29, 2009.*
